Scotland has left a place open for lock Nathan Hines for next month's two-test tour of Argentina while he spends time in Australia with his sick mother-in-law.
Coach Andy Robinson announced a squad of 27 on Wednesday and has allowed him to decide whether he wants to play.
Robinson says Hines will help his wife care for her mother. If he felt able to fly to Argentina for the tests on June 12 and 19, then a place in the squad was available.
Chris Paterson, Thom Evans and Rory Lamont will all miss the tour because of injury, but Robinson has left out center Ben Cairns and replaced him with Edinburgh teammate Jim Thompson.
