Scotland have been dealt a blow ahead of their tour to Argentina with news that prop Euan Murray has been ruled out because of ongoing ankle problems.
The 29-year-old has been struggling with injury to both ankles and has withdrawn following advice from both Scotland and Northampton medical staff.
He will be replaced by Edinburgh's Geoff Cross for the two-Test trip.
Murray, who won his 32nd cap in Scotland's victory over Ireland in March, has been told the decision to pull out of the squad was essential in aiding his recovery.
Scotland team doctor James Robson said: "Following consultation between our medical team and the medics at Euan's club, Northampton, the decision has been taken in the interests of the player for Euan to undergo a period of rest, treatment and rehabilitation for differing injuries affecting both ankles."
The promotion of Cross - who won his second cap in the Calcutta Cup match in March - means a change is required in the Scotland A squad for the IRB Nations Cup in Bucharest.
That means Bruce Douglas, who won the last of his 43 full Scotland caps four years ago, will return to A team duty.
Douglas, who plays for Montpellier in France, is due to join Worcester for next season.
